AR6 reports opposing observed drought trends within Australia itself (decreasing in the north, increasing in the south) — plausibly why the continent-wide index here shows no detected change, since regionally opposite signals can net out in an aggregate. AR6 also reports an observed, continent-wide increase in fire weather days since 1950, while the burned-area and dry-matter-combusted metrics tracked here both show no detected change for Oceania — the same fire-weather-vs-realized-fire distinction drawn on the Wildfire page, not a contradiction.

Oceania's live GloFAS chart appears above, in the tile grid (both the percentile-based "high flow" series and GloFAS's Alert/Warning/Severe return-period tiers). The literature finding below supplies context the live index alone doesn't capture, rather than standing in as a placeholder for it.

The best-supported angle on this site so far (see the dedicated Flooding page): multiple studies document a north/south divergence in Australian flood behavior under warming -- rainfall extremes have intensified in the country's north, while runoff efficiency and flood response have weakened in parts of the south, meaning rainfall trends and flood trends don't move together.

Heat Waves / Temperature Extremes
The underlying GSN station network's density varies widely across continents: Europe and North America both clear a usable bar (see those pages), but Asia (peaks at 121 qualifying stations), Africa (37), South America (33), and Oceania (56) all stay well under 100 at their historical peak, too sparse to say "what changed" rather than "where the stations are."
