Summed from GTC's North Atlantic (NATL) + Northeast Pacific (NEPAC) basins (an inner join -- a season missing from either basin's record is dropped, not treated as zero). The reliable window starts 1980, matching the Klotzbach & Landsea recommendation the site's global (all-basin) Tropical Cyclones variable uses.
